The property was purchased by the Harris family in 1965 and over the years has been utilized by 5 generations as a home, commercial fishing wharf, and place for relaxation along the beautiful Maine coastline.
The building was originally built in the early 1900’s and used as a gift shop and ice cream parlor for the arriving passengers off the Steamship, which docked at the wharf next door (to the north). Steamship guests would arrive from Portland and stay at the Merritt House, just up the hill.
An extremely thorough remodel (everything from septic to foundation to roof and everything in between) was begun in 2004, and completed in 2006. The Shore house has been a labor of love. We hope you can feel that.
The revival of this historic home boasts unmatched view of tranquil Garrison Cove and Harpswell Sound. For your Island getaway, you will enjoy a peaceful setting with a deep water dock, area restaurants, the world famous Cribstone Bridge and a white sand beach within short walking distance. Sea kayak lessons are just a stones throw from your door, as well as unmatched shopping (in Freeport) just 40 minutes away.
We hope that you will find the solitude here that only the quaint and rural Maine coastline can provide.
